Zane R. Jobe, Ph.D.

With over 20 years of experience in clastic sedimentology, particularly in deep-water depositional systems, I bring a proven track record of integrating static and dynamic subsurface data with outcrop and modern-seafloor data to characterize and predict reservoir architecture and quality. I have led more than 40 field trips for industry and academia, showcasing my ability to translate complex sedimentological concepts into practical insights. My publication record reflects broad recognition in the field at the subject-matter expert (SME) level. I currently manage large-scale, multidisciplinary research projects that deliver applied, business-relevant outcomes to both academic and industry partners.

 Supervisor: Kirt Campion Conducted outcrop-based sedimentological field work (including ground penetrating radar surveys) to quantify bedform density and submarine channel architecture of the Ross Sandstone in western Ireland. I integrated the data from this outcrop analog with borehole and seismic reflection data from the Diana Field (western Gulf of Mexico) in order to better predict reservoir connectivity and future well locations. Knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position included: understanding of petroleum systems and hydrocarbon reservoirs, collection of field data and ground-penetrating radar surveys, interpretation of seismic data, borehole, and outcrop data, communication of scientific results through presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.

 Supervisor: Bill Morris Described core and interpreted seismic data from the Magnolia field (Gulf of Mexico) and provided depositional environment interpretations. Performed outcrop-based field work on submarine-fan deposits in the Karoo basin, South Africa in order to provide an analog to the Magnolia field, GOM. Specifically, I studied climbing-ripple cross-laminated sandstones in both the Karoo and Magnolia, and used numerical modeling to provide sedimentation rates and accumulation times of individual turbidite event-beds. This data was used to better constrain in-place hydrocarbon volumes, reservoir, connectivity, and future well placement decisions for Magnolia field. Knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position included: understanding of sedimentology and related geologic processes and petroleum systems, interpretation of seismic reflection and core data to assess petroleum accumulations,

 Supervisor: Steve Uchytil Utilized 3D seismic reflection and borehole data to interpret the Cenozoic evolution of the Rio Muni Basin continental margin, offshore Equatorial Guinea. Specifically, I defined two fundamentally different types of submarine canyons and provided a method for defining sand content using only canyon geometry. I wrote a technical report and peer-reviewed manuscript using the data from this project, which enabled Hess to better constrain sediment routing and in-place volume estimates for a key petroleum reservoir. I also conducted geohazard assessments for the positioning of tension leg platform (TLP) infrastructure in offshore Equatorial Guinea. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position included: advanced 3D seismic interpretation, borehole data characterization, fault mapping, and data synthesis into a technical presentation for technical and non-technical audiences

 Supervisor: Rob Hull In my first petroleum industry job, I mapped regional horizons from 2D seismic reflection data, offshore Nigeria in an effort to interpret deep-water channel architectural evolution and constrain undiscovered geologic energy resources. This included constructing a regional tectonic analysis for the basin and compiling data for a porosity-permeability-depth study from existing borehole data, offshore Nigeria. I also updated a weekly scout-report poster with drilling activity in the basin to disseminate data to the team. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position included: the ability to generate estimates of petroleum resources from subsurface data, present technical work to technical and non-technical audiences, knowledge of software used in seismic interpretation, and knowledge of operations geology and drilling.

 Surficial Floodplain Mapper
 Supervisor: John Holbrook (john.holbrook@tcu.edu)
Through a USGS EDMAP grant received by John Holbrook, I was hired as a student-mapper. I hand-augered and logged > 200 cores of Quaternary fluvial deposits in the Missouri River valley in order to constrain paleo-river locations and dimensions and to aid in locating suitable areas for wetland restoration. Drill sites were selected using remotely sensed GIS data and allostratigraphic principles. I utilized ArcGIS to draft and publish four surficial geological quadrangle maps that aided in wetland rehabilitation, crop productivity, and water resource characterization. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position include geologic and geomorphic field mapping, field data collection, GIS software knowledge, creativity, teamwork, attention to detail, and technical report writing.

Conducted field work in the Apache Mountains in the Permian Basin, Texas, to measure stratigraphic sections, Samples from those sections were processed in the lab to identify microfaunal content (conodonts, radiolaria, & foraminifera). I also compiled data for a biostratigraphic correlation of the Apache Mountains to the Guadalupe Mountains, where the stratotype section is for the Guadalupian (Permian) stage. Wrote a thesis entitled “Stratigraphy of the upper Bell Canyon Formation (Guadalupian Stage, Permian System), Seven Heart Gap, Apache Mountains, Trans-Pecos Texas”. For this research, I was awarded the 2004 President’s award for Undergraduate Research at the University of Texas at Arlington. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position include geologic mapping, carbonate facies identification, fossil identification, laboratory procedures for biostratigraphy, and technical report writing.
